What is Query Builder?

Query Builder is a tool that lets you create custom queries to retrieve the specific data you need. It provides a guided process for configuring query settings, selecting the appropriate columns, applying filters, and reviewing the setup before saving or running the query. By tailoring queries to your reporting and operational requirements, Query Builder helps you organize, analyze, and access relevant information more efficiently.

How to Create and Run a Custom Query Using Query Builder?

• The main page of the Query Builder displays all queries you create in this tool.

• Use the Action section to view, edit or run, the query. Click More for additional options such as Clone, Delete, and more.

Creating a Query

Step 1 - General

• To create a new query in Query Builder, select  in the upper right corner of the screen.  
  
  
• A new window appears with the following fields: 

 

3. Report Category: Determines whether an account's data is included in the query

• The Managed and Unmanaged selections look for Unmanaged asset inclusion settings set on accounts in this location:
  
  
  • Portfolio Audit > Accounts > Edit Account > [Settings] Options > Reports > Unmanaged Assets Inclusion 

 

All - Includes data from all managed and unmanaged accounts Any of the Managed selections - Will only include data from managed accounts, unless an unmanaged account also has an unmanaged assets inclusion setting that matches the Report Category. Any of the Unmanaged selections - Will only include data from unmanaged accounts, unless a managed account also has an unmanaged assets inclusion setting that matches the Report Category.

4. Row Grouping:  Determines how the query displays. For example, if the Row Grouping is set to Account, the results for the query displays by Account

5. Run For:  Determines the entity level that the query runs

6. Category:  Provides the ability to create categories and organize queries into specific sections (i.e. Performance, Reporting, Billing, etc.)

7. Time Period: Determines the date range the values being returned in the query are based on

 

Step 2 - Columns

• Choose what columns display on the query.  Query Builder uses the same data points available in Report Builder 3.0.  Next to each data point or column is a description of what each data point is designed to show.
  
  
• To add a column to the query, type in the desired data point in the search area (1) and select the checkbox next to the desired data point.  
  
  
• Continue to add columns as needed.
  
  
• Select  in the bottom right corner of the window to continue.

 

Step 3 - Filters

• Apply filters to the query to control the data it displays. For example, add a ‘Activity Value’ > not equal to > 0 filter to exclude all-zero value accounts from populating in the query results. 
  
  
• After completing the fields, select the + icon to add the filter. Apply multiple filters by selecting the + icon after adding each filter.
  
  
• Select  after adding all filters. 

 

Step 4 - Summary

• On the last step, review the setup of the query.
  
  
• Click Save Template to save the query template as a draft, or click Save and Run to run it instantaneously.

Please Note: It may take a query longer to generate if a significant amount of results need to populate based on the parameters you set.  
 

 

• After selecting , a prompt appears where you select the parameters to run the query.
